TimBers

TimBers are easily made. Kids of all ages enjoy building all sorts of structures with them. The (small) family pets enjoy napping or hiding in the structures as well. They are similar to but larger than Lincoln Logs and are square, like timbers, instead of round, like logs. Photos of various creations follow:

The construction procedure for walls, trusses, and roof planks are given in the sections that follow.

Walls

1.2x4s (or 1x6, 1x8 into 2x4 at 3 1/2").
2.Sand surfaces and check for nails.
3.Set up 3/4" dato (+1/64") and raise 3/8" from table.
4.Set 3/4" x 1/8" steel strip 5 1/4" from dato.
5.Pushing against 3/4" strip, cross cut with dato on both surfaces.
6.Set 3/4" steel strip 4 1/2" from dato.
7.Repeat step #5.
8.Rip grooved 2x4s 1 1/2".
9.Sand edges of 2x2s made.
10.Set up jig for 1" cut and cut ends 1" from groove.

1" from end to groove edge, 1 1/2" wide grooves, 3/8" deep grooves.

Trusses

1 1/2", 6/12 pitch, 26.565 degrees. Make template, copy by tracing, and use 26.565 degree cut.

Roof Planks

1/2" x 1 1/2". Rip 2x4, 2x6, 2x8 etc. 1/2".
