Gun Stock Crack Repair

The information below describes and shows how to repair a crack in a gun stock. The gun used for this demonstration is a Turkish Model 1903 8mm Mauser Rifle made in 1940 with serial number 29147. This gun is from Zane Wilson's Collection.

Gorilla Glue is used because it is very strong and waterproof. Refer to Gorilla Glue Web Site for details. Read, understand, and follow the Gorilla Glue directions.

Materials Needed

1. Gorilla Glue
2. Water
3. Tooth Picks
4. Wood Clamps
5. Paper Towels

NOTE: Read, understand, and follow all product labeling precautions and directions.

Step 1: Prepare

The crack to be repaired is shown below. The surfaces to be glued must be clean and tight fitting. Determine the best type of clamps and best clamp placement to most effectively align and compress the crack:

Step 2: Open and Dampen

Open crack with toothpick(s) and dampen crack with water throughout. Compressed air or Wet/Dry Shop Vacuum may be used to remove exess water:

Step 3: Apply Glue

Apply glue as described and force glue into crack using toothpick as shown below:

Step 4: Align and Clamp

Remove toothpick(s) and carefully align precisely and clamp:

Step 5: Remove Excess

Note how glue expands as foam over time. Remove excess glue after expansion has completed (15-30 minutes):

Allow to cure for at least 24 hours before assembly and use.
